The American actress Rooney Mara (Dare, The Winning Season, Tanner Hall, Youth in Revolt, A Nightmare on Elm Street) will be Lisbeth Salander. Opposite her will be Daniel Craig as Mikael Blomqvist in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The 25 year old actress will be also cast with Craig in the other two Millenium films. The astonishing news about a relatively unknown actress cast in this box office success was released August 16.
Directed by David Fincher, the film will begin shooting in Stockholm in the autumn.
Mara is featured in Fincher's The Social Network (2010) as the girlfriend of soon to be Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. This year she also appears in Kaboom which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival in May. Written by Greg Araki, this is a queer sci-fi on the sexual awaking of a group of college students.
